Welcome to Worthylake Sports Therapy! We’re a sports therapy clinic in Wolfville, Nova Scotia run by husband and wife team, Dr. Darcy Worthylake and Kate Matheson. We’re working to refine sports injury recovery and prevention to provide a new standard of care and help athletes of all levels return to (and stay at) the top of their game.

Certified in a wide variety of advanced therapies and techniques to bring you real, lasting results without relying on medication, surgery or never-ending treatment.

WE'VE WORKED AROUND THE WORLD WITH:

  • Hollywood actors to gain lean muscle quickly and improve mobility

  • Stuntmen to improve chronic injuries after no one else could

  • Olympic athletes to prevent injury and win medals

  • Canadian military to recover from surgery and return to training

  • National track champions to rehab old injuries and maintain their #1 ranking

And we’re bringing this same approach to healing injury, accelerating recovery time and enhancing performance to support our hometown community of competitive and recreational athletes.

Because you don’t need to be a professional athlete to be treated like one.

OWNER + CHIROPRACTOR

I always knew I wanted to be in healthcare. My grandfather was a family doctor here in the area and, from a young age, I saw the positive impact an individual can have in the community.

In 2009, I fractured my spine. I spent over a year waiting for a diagnosis, being passed around from practitioner to practitioner while living in constant pain. After surgery, I was told to rest. Nothing improved.

It was once I took my rehabilitation into my own hands that I was able to retrain my body’s natural movements to make a full recovery. It’s why I decided to become a chiropractor.

That experience was humbling, frustrating, eye-opening and has forever instilled an empathy for those in pain as well as the importance of movement in rehabilitation.

I don’t want others out there living in pain unnecessarily or resorting to medication, surgeries or never ending treatment because they think it’s their only option. Especially because what can be done today to help heal injury, reduce pain – even chronic conditions, is absolutely unbelievable.

I’ve had the honour of working with athletes of all levels for the last decade – from the Canadian Military as their Physical Exercise Specialist to being Lead Clinician for the Olympic Wrestling Team in Beijing and all kinds of national, professional and recreational athletes in between.

The cool thing about working with elite athletes is that you’re always pushing the envelope to deliver top care so they see the best results as fast as possible. You get to test cutting edge techniques and use the latest research in sports rehabilitation to help these athletes recover, and perform at the top of their game without injury.

To best serve the athletes, I studied DNS (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization) in Prague and became one of two certified practitioners this side of Ottawa as well as a multitude of advanced sport related trainings in diagnostics and treatment. This is in addition to Chiropractic, Acupuncture, exercise rehab and soft tissue techniques.

However, what I began to notice is that while these amazing and highly effective approaches were common place in the elite athlete world they weren’t being used let alone talked about among recreational athletes and the general population. It's these very approaches I am so excited to bring to our community of athletes here in the Annapolis Valley.

My mission is to help athletes and active individuals of every age and level see how resilient their body is and how incredible it can feel, move and perform when its functioning optimally.

Because I believe EVERY athlete should be treated like an elite athlete.

If you're dealing with an injury or pain that's keeping you from the activities you love or a lingering issue you were just "living with", I look forward to seeing you.

CHIROPRACTOR

As a Chiropractor and Strength and Conditioning Specialist, my primary focus is on injury rehab and assisting individuals in achieving their movement goals. As a fellow East Coaster, I am thrilled to call Nova Scotia home after studying and practicing in Toronto, where I had the privilege to gain extensive experience working with various teams and athletes, ranging from weekend warriors to semi-professional and professional athletes.

With a background in teaching, I place great emphasis on educating my patients and empowering them to take an active role in their care. My educational journey has been quite comprehensive, starting with a Bachelors in Physical Education, followed by a Bachelors in Education, and culminating with the completion of the Doctor of Chiropractic program at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. To further enhance my skills, I am currently pursuing a Masters of Kinesiology at Acadia University, alongside the Sports Sciences Residency Program through the Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences. This intensive three-year program has a strong focus on sports-related injury management. Additionally, I hold certifications in Acupuncture and am a Red Cross Emergency First Responder. My passion for high-level learning allows me to optimize athlete performance and improve injury recovery.

My wide-ranging knowledge enables me to take a holistic approach to injuries, unlocking untapped potential for my patients. By combining evidence-based practices with targeted treatments and exercise-based injury rehab that Worthylake Sports Therapy is known for, I aim to expedite your recovery and performance.

Outside of the clinic, I have a love for staying active and spending quality time outdoors with my friends, family, partner, and pup.

Whether you are dealing with injuries, pain, or seeking a healthier lifestyle, you can trust that I can provide you with exceptional care and support.

KATE MATHESON

OWNER

Hi - I’m Kate, a lifelong entrepreneur, yoga and meditation teacher and passionate advocate of health. Here at WST, I run the behind-the-scenes “business” side to ensure you have a simple, stress-free experience.

For the past 4 years I’ve been operating Matheson & Co., where I help health and wellness practitioners of all kinds to build thriving, patient-centred practices that prioritize real results, so it's a natural fit to practice what I preach!

I was born and raised here in the valley but have been studying, building businesses, and traveling around the world for nearly half my life. It feels amazing to be back in the community I’ve always considered home and surrounded by others who also believe movement, exercise and the outdoors are medicine for our body and mind.

As someone who has seen more practitioners than I’d like to count over the years, I know how important it is to have a practitioner truly there for me. To understand my issues fully, know what I need and treat them confidently and thoroughly so I actually achieve lasting results rather than it being just “another thing I try”.

It's part of my mission here at WST to ensure YOU feel that way about your experience with us.

I look forward to seeing you soon!
